I. Introduction
In May 2019, the African Continental Free
Trade Area (AfCFTA) officially came into
effect. It is a huge economic community,
covering 54 African countries and the
population of 1,200,000,000. The total GDP of
member states amounts to 3 trillion dollars. The
AfCFTA aims at accelerating African regional
integration and unity by forming a single economic
bloc and achieving common prosperity. In order to
stimulate regional economic integration, the
AfCFTA attempts to rescind tariff and non-tariff
barriers, liberalize the movement of service and
labor, etc. This study will provide analysis on and
prospect of the progress and overview of the
AfCFTA, and then propose implications for Korean
diplomacy.
