I. Introduction
Scientific and technological advances and
innovations characterized by artificial
intelligence and informatization created the
global information network through the
evolution of digital tools such as the Internet, smart
phones, and social network service (SNS). As the
digital means contributed to the emergence of
direct interactions among users, digital diplomacy,
which uses SNS platforms such as Facebook and
Twitter for diplomatic activities, has drawn much
attention.
The media and academia have been eyeing
on big data and SNS platforms as a useful source of
figuring out public opinion. They are relatively
more cost-effective and time-saving, and thus, they
are considered to be a replacement and substitution
of the existing opinion polls. Moreover, big data
analysis could be effective to analyze who shapes
and leads public opinion.
This paper aims to discuss how big data
could be utilized to analyze public opinion on
diplomatic and security areas, and its implications.
