The British exit from the European Union, dubbed ‘Brexit,’ is adding to uncertainty in the world economy. The Latin American region, whose high dependence on foreign trade
makes it vulnerable to changes in the global economy, is particularly
concerned about the potential impact of Brexit. However, it is unlikely that the event will have significant
direct effects on the Latin American economy since the
UK is not a major economic weight in the region, but rather, collateral effects of ▲changes in the U.S. and
Chinese economies which are closely related to the Latin
American region, ▲U.S. currency policy, ▲decline in
global consumption, ▲slowdown of the Chinese
economy, and ▲fall in raw material prices.
