While Korea and 
Turkey share an 
inexplicable close 
affinity, the two 
countries do not 
understand each other well. It is happy 
to note that personnel and economic 
exchanges have substantially increased 
recently between the two countries. 
Unfortunately, however, the general 
assessment is that the two countries 
have failed to utilize their potential. 
Since they are geographically far apart, 
which in turn often does not lead to 
common strategic interests, the two 
countries do not have sensitive political 
and diplomatic issues. Conversely, 
however, the lack of sensitive pending 
issues can be viewed positively, because 
it may lead to enhanced bilateral 
relations based on strong and 
traditional friendship. 
Second, private sectors of the two 
countries are required to develop an 
effective system in which they can have 
substantive dialogues. No one can deny 
that the current comprehensive business 
committees contribute to enhancing our 
business relations. However, it may be 
more effective to establish separate 
committees in specific industries where 
Korea and Turkey should find out new 
opportunity to the benefit of our two 
people.
