    The 2nd China-Japan-ROK Summit
    Meeting (hereafter Trilateral
    Summit) took place in Beijing,
China, on October 10 with the
    world closely watching the talks
    and developments made therein.
The three countries’ aggregate economy was
ranked as No.3 after NAFTA and EU in 2008, and it
is expected to take over EU for the second place in
the near future. In this regard, their roles and
importance in addressing key issues like global
economic crisis and climate change are ever
growing. Northeast Asia lacks the framework of
regional cooperation that corresponds to the
regional economic interdependence, as well as an
    effective multilateral management system for
political and security issues, in comparison to
Europe and North America. That is why this
gathering of the three leaders to look back to the
past 10 years of cooperation, exchange opinions
about the international and regional political and
economic situation, and discuss the future
prospects holds a great meaning to not only the
Northeast Asian regional cooperation but also the
    international order.
New cooperation projects like the launch of the
    Trilateral Cooperation Cyber Secretariat,
strengthening of the cooperation in the aviation
sector including the aviation security, promotion
of university exchange activities with crossregistration
    and joint-degree programs, and the
launch of Trilateral Business Summit were
approved at the Trilateral Summit. Follow-up
measures for creating a more detailed and binding
systematic devices related to these accomplishments
are called for on the road ahead.
