The foreign policy of the Obama administration will be based on the traditional “internationalist liberalism” of Democratic Party that stresses the issues like human rights and democratic values, but it will also focus on realist concept of national interest, thus showing a balanced tendency. In addition to this ideological tendency, the Obama administration will also stress a balance in its performing tools of foreign and security policies, which shows a global cooperative diplomacy by applying “smart power,” a balanced construct of hard and soft powers.
In regards to North Korea, the
administration is emphasizing a
dialogue. That is, in order to handle the
nuclear issue, the cooperation from
international society is a must, and a
sustained, direct and aggressive
diplomacy needs to be executed while
hostile measures cannot be ignored.
Also, as Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton has already mentioned during
her round of visits in Asia, the
government is likely to solve the
nuclear issue in a comprehensive
