Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to investigate security consequences of the Asian financial 
crisis. This paper is composed of three sections: The first section conceptually 
illustrates the characteristics of the Asian financial crisis, and defines the concept of 
"security." The second section is a list of speculations of possible security 
consequences of the Asian financial crisis in the Asian region. Finally, the third section 
critically assesses the speculations by focusing on uncertainty and certainty factors and 
the states' proactive responses to the changing security environment of the region. The 
third section also looks into the factors that made the security consequences of the 
Asian financial crisis quite minimal as of now.
